Considered a premier spot for alpine freeriding, the Sainte Foy Tarentaise ski area is renowned for its legendary off-piste runs that irresistibly draw skiers seeking wild skiing and pure sensations.

Leave your mark in the untouched bowls and corridors, embark on a technical line from a ridge or in the vast valleys available to you… sensations are guaranteed for seasoned skiers, lovers of freedom and wide-open spaces.

From renowned routes to confidential off-piste areas, we reveal a small part of the best-kept secret in the Alps, pockets of joy whispered among friends and shared with your loved ones.

Discovering Sainte-Foy? Get guided!

Admittedly, the splendid off-piste runs of Sainte Foy tempt you to strap on your skis and dive into the powdery clouds covering them. However, we remind you that off-piste skiing carries risks: it is essential to be accompanied by mountain professionals familiar with the area. We advise you to get in touch with ski schools or local guides who organize supervised descents.

Moreover, their perfect knowledge of these off-piste areas will allow you to fully enjoy the assets of each route: experience untouched bowls and secret spots for timeless skiing moments!

1. North face of Foglietta (2930m)

Foglietta is THE off-piste of the resort! After a good half-hour walk and climbing 400 meters up a ridge from the top of the Aiguille ski lift, you reach the tip of Foglietta. Here, you have two options: a full westward descent that leads back to the Sainte Foy Tarentaise resort or the majestic north face, brimming with splendid wild lines flowing with nature.

As you drop into the north face, the emotion is intense from the start: you dive directly into a super steep slope for 400 meters, protected from the sun’s rays due to its orientation, ensuring good snow quality for much of the season. To recover from your thrills, a gentler ride awaits you later on the slopes of the Mercuel valley to the hamlet of Savonnes. From there, simply take the path descending to the hamlet of la Mazure and then return by shuttle to Sainte Foy.

2. The Vallon du Clou (2620m)

Starting at an altitude of 2620 meters, the off-piste run of Vallon du Clou, also known as the Monal off-piste, is undoubtedly one of the most famous in the resort. After getting off the Aiguille ski lift, you need to go under the lift to start the descent on this wild route with an exotic atmosphere. Ideal for introducing yourself to off-piste skiing, after a few turns in deep snow, you’ll find yourself on gentle slopes with a breathtaking view of the lake and the Clou hamlet.

After a slight uphill hike with the peak of Mont Pourri gradually revealing itself like a sunrise, you begin your descent towards the Monal, the typical hamlet of Sainte Foy. After all this effort, you might want to gather around a well-deserved drink; just glide down to the resort, through the larches, via the lower part of the Plan Bois slope.
